RM2.24m Wangsa Sari PPR upgrade adds bridge, wiring and fire-safety works

If you live at Wangsa Sari PPR, the useful part of the announcement is not the ribbon-cutting. It is the list of works: new paint, electrical cable replacement, road resurfacing, fire-safety upgrades and a footbridge across the Sungai Bonus reserve.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall has allocated RM2,240,000 for the Wangsa Maju public housing block, according to a DBKL statement reported by Bernama. The works cover 1,061 residents and are meant to improve the building's basic condition and everyday safety.

The largest line item is RM1,100,000 for repainting. DBKL also set aside RM904,000 to replace sub-main cables and main switch boards, RM136,000 for road paving and RM101,000 for fire-safety improvements.

The separate item residents will probably feel most directly is a RM200,000 pedestrian bridge. DBKL said the bridge will be 18 metres long and two metres wide, crossing the Sungai Bonus reserve to improve access from the PPR to Padang Wangsa Sari and reduce safety risks along Jalan 2/27A.

That bridge work is scheduled to run from October to December 2026. The timing matters because a public-housing upgrade is only helpful when residents can see when the work starts and when the disruption should end.

Wangsa Sari PPR was built in 2008. Bernama reported that it is a 21-storey block with 272 units, of which 173 are for sale and 99 are rental units. For residents, that age is the context: repainting makes the block look better, but wiring, fire systems and safer walking routes are the parts that decide whether the place works day to day.

Malay Mail separately reported residents welcoming the work after Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh and Kuala Lumpur mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud visited the site. The point now is delivery. A RM2,240,000 allocation is only as good as the completed cables, roads and bridge that residents can actually use.
