RM517m Samalaju water contract gives Sarawak industrial corridor a 36-month build

KKB Engineering Bhd has secured a RM517,000,000 government contract for the Score - Samalaju Water Supply Physical Infrastructure Phase 2 project in Sarawak, giving the industrial corridor a 36-month infrastructure build.

The contract was awarded through the Regional Corridor Development Authority, according to Bursa-reported details carried by The Star. DagangNews reported that the letter of acceptance was dated 28 September 2026 and that KKB will be required to sign a written agreement with the government.

For property readers, the contract is not a housing story and it should not be dressed up as one. Its relevance is industrial: Samalaju's ability to take more factories, utilities and heavy users depends on hard infrastructure that can keep up with demand. Water supply is one of those basic constraints developers and occupiers cannot solve by themselves.

KKB said the project is expected to contribute positively to group earnings and net assets over the contract period. It also flagged execution risks, including skilled labour and material availability, foreign-exchange movement, price changes, weather and political, economic or regulatory conditions.

The company said the project will not affect its share capital, and that none of its directors, major shareholders or connected parties has a direct or indirect interest in the project. DagangNews reported KKB's board view that the contract is in the best interest of the company and its group.

The published filings and reports do not state new industrial land acreage, a housing allocation, or any property-price effect. The clean read is narrower but still meaningful: a RM517,000,000 water job is now in the pipeline for one of Sarawak's main industrial nodes, and the timetable being reported is three years.
