Selangor says 200,000 Rumah Selangorku homes are still on target

Selangor is telling house hunters that its 200,000-unit Rumah Selangorku target for 2028 is still reachable, even as construction costs keep pressing on affordable housing delivery.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said 57,000 units have been handed over and another 34,000 are under construction, according to Media Selangor. He spoke after the Housing Aspirations Night in Shah Alam on 12 October 2026.

For a buyer waiting for a state-backed home, the important figure is not only the headline target. It is the pipeline. Amirudin said the overall total is around 174,000 units when completed, under-construction and planning-permit-stage homes are counted together. That leaves the state trying to push the remaining projects through approvals and construction before the 2028 deadline.

RTM carried the same 200,000-unit target on 13 October and noted the pressure from higher building costs. Its report said fuel and raw-material costs have risen because of Middle East tensions and supply constraints, with construction costs up by 25% to 40%.

That is the part buyers feel even when a project is labelled affordable. If costs rise, the state and developers have to protect the selling-price promise, the unit size, the build quality and the handover timing at the same time. Something usually has to be watched more closely.

The target itself is not new. Bernama reported on 7 August 2026, during the Second Selangor Plan announcement, that Selangor was aiming for 200,000 affordable homes under Rumah Selangorku Harapan and Rumah Selangorku Idaman. At that point, the state cited 64,188 completed units and 69,014 under construction.

The numbers differ by programme cut-off and how each stage is counted, so buyers should treat the latest October statement as a progress update rather than a project list. The practical next step is still the same: check the specific scheme, location, eligibility conditions and ballot or application process before assuming a unit will be available where you need to live.
