Kulim residents clean up, then Taman Angsana floods again

Rummah EditorialRummah Editorial··2 min read

Residents in two Kulim housing areas were still cleaning mud out of their homes when the water came back.

Kosmo reported that about 1,500 residents in Taman Angsana and Taman Selasih faced another flash flood at about 7am on Sunday, Oct 4, after roughly 30 minutes of heavy rain. The same residential areas had been flooded the previous evening.

One Taman Angsana homeowner, Zahir Kassim, told Kosmo he rushed back from Mengkuang, Penang, after seeing messages about the Saturday flood in local WhatsApp groups and on social media. His house in Taman Angsana is used as a homestay. By the time he arrived, muddy water had entered and soaked carpets and furniture. He said no tenant was in the house at the time.

For people living in landed neighbourhoods, this is the tiring part of banjir kilat: it is not only the hour of rising water, but the repeat clean-up, the uncertainty over whether furniture can be saved, and the worry that a short storm is enough to bring water back into the porch or living room.

Kosmo reported Zahir as saying the area had seen flooding around 2017, but had not been hit again until the latest incident. That history matters for owners, tenants and homestay operators because a neighbourhood that goes quiet for years can still carry drainage risk when intense rain returns.

There was no official damage estimate in the report. For now, the verified facts are limited but serious enough: two consecutive flood incidents in the same Kulim residential areas, about 1,500 residents affected, and at least one home where water entered to ankle level and damaged household items.
