KPKT told the Dewan Rakyat on 14 October 2026 that 1,726 private housing projects had been revived as at August, covering 199,643 homes and about RM158 billion in gross development value.
For buyers and owners caught in a delayed scheme, the important point is what the ministry counts as revived. It is not one single outcome. According to Bernama, 147 projects involving 29,900 homes had moved from sick status back to smooth status, while 1,542 sick projects involving 163,621 homes had been fully completed and issued Certificates of Completion and Compliance. Another 37 abandoned projects, covering 6,122 homes, had been revived or resolved in ways the ministry said benefited buyers.
That makes this a homebuyer-protection story, not just a ministry scorecard. A project that has been completed with CCC is very different from one that is merely back on track. If you are buying into an under-construction development, or advising a client who is, the status to check is the specific project record, not the national headline number.
The Edge Malaysia reported a sharper Kuala Lumpur detail from the same Dewan Rakyat answer: seven private projects in the capital remained abandoned as at 31 August 2026. Five were in planning, one was undergoing rehabilitation and one was static. KL also had 12 sick housing projects involving 6,102 buyers.
The Salak Selatan apartment case shows why the label matters. The Edge reported that the 1,120-unit Residensi Wilayah Pangsapuri Salak Selatan project had been classified as sick since 22 August 2021, when construction progress stood at 87.5%, and that its recovery now depends partly on legal proceedings involving the project parties.
For a buyer, the practical step is boring but necessary: check the developer, licence, sales permit and project status before paying a booking fee, then check again before signing the sale and purchase agreement. The National Housing Department points buyers to TEDUH for the public lists of abandoned and sick housing projects.
- A project marked completed with CCC has crossed a different line from a project that has only been moved out of sick status.
- A revived abandoned project can still have legal, financing or contractor issues before keys are handed over.
- Agents should treat the project-level TEDUH record as part of the client conversation, especially for under-construction homes.
