If you live in public housing or are waiting for a government-backed home, the Budget 2027 number to keep is RM6.355 billion. That is the allocation for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, up RM266.74 million from this year, according to Bernama.
The ministry says the money is meant to strengthen the housing agenda, upgrade public facilities, improve community well-being and support Fire and Rescue Department preparedness. In plain terms, this is the Budget line that should show up in homes, lifts, paintwork, shared facilities and new public-housing projects.
The Prime Minister's Budget speech also set aside nearly RM1,000,000,000 for projects such as Rumah Mesra Rakyat and Program Residensi Rakyat. Four new housing projects were named: Kulai in Johor, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, Paya Rumput in Melaka and Lembah Pertang in Terengganu.
For owners in older flats, the maintenance language is worth watching. KPKT Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation would allow more works such as lift replacement, repainting and repair of damaged public facilities. Those are not glamorous line items, but they are often the difference between a home people can live with and a block that slowly becomes harder to sell, rent or maintain.
The Budget also raises the allocation for maintenance of registered non-Muslim houses of worship to RM80,000,000. That is not a housing subsidy, but it sits in the same local-facilities bucket: neighbourhoods work better when shared buildings are not left to decay.
The next question is implementation. Buyers can see a new PRR only when the site, unit count, eligibility rules and application route are published. Owners in existing public housing should look for the specific maintenance list in their council or scheme, because a national allocation does not tell you whether your lift or corridor is on the schedule.
