Rummah News' view: Sarawak's industrial story is no longer only about future corridors and masterplans. The work is starting to show up in contract books.
Kelington Group Bhd's wholly owned Kelington Technologies Sdn Bhd has secured another contract worth about RM133 million for major structural steel works at an advanced data-storage manufacturing facility in Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone, Kuching. The Edge Malaysia, citing the company's Bursa filing, reported that the award was received on 2 October 2026 and is scheduled for completion by April 2028.
The new award follows a RM172 million contract announced on 29 September 2026 for engineering and early-stage infrastructure works at the same facility. Kelington's own press release for that earlier award said the work covered site development, foundation systems and critical high-voltage power infrastructure, with completion targeted for August 2027.
Add the earlier contracts and purchase orders, and Kelington says its awards from the same customer for the Kuching project now stand at about RM416 million. That is the property-market signal here. Large manufacturing and data-storage facilities do not arrive as a single headline. They arrive as land preparation, power infrastructure, structural steel, utilities and a string of specialist contracts that pull demand toward the surrounding industrial estate.
There is still a limit to what can be said. The customer has not been named in the public reports, and this is not a residential launch or a retail project. But for agents and industrial landlords watching Kuching, Sama Jaya is again the place to watch because the spending is attached to a real facility with dated work packages.
