Kampung Sageng's riverbank protection works in Simunjan are badly behind schedule, just as the rainy months become the thing everyone nearby starts watching.
The RM40.8 million project was at 24.95% physical progress on 25 September 2026, compared with a scheduled 68.77%, according to a DayakDaily report on Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee's site inspection. That is a 43.82 percentage-point gap on a job meant to reduce erosion risk around nearby residential settlements.
The work is not an abstract infrastructure item for the kampung. UKAS said when the project was handed over in April 2025 that it was designed to protect the Kampung Sageng river corridor and reduce damage risk to infrastructure, after riverbank erosion had affected homes in the area.
Rodiyah, who inspected the site on 29 September, said closer monitoring was needed so the Simunjan flood-mitigation and erosion-protection works stayed on track. DayakDaily reported her as saying that issues slowing the works should be identified and dealt with quickly, especially because the infrastructure is intended to protect public safety and reduce flood and erosion risks.
The Kampung Sageng package involves a 968-metre riverbank protection structure. Rodiyah said construction had required adjustments and technical changes after actual river conditions were taken into account, and called on the contractor to submit a clear catch-up plan.
A second scheme, the RM22.34 million Simunjan Flood Mitigation Plan Phase 1, is further along. It was 70.09% complete as of 25 September and is expected to be completed by April 2027, subject to a decision on any extension of time.
The practical question for residents is whether both sets of works can move fast enough before heavier rain tests the river edge again. UKAS had earlier put the Kampung Sageng project's scheduled completion at April 2027, with a 24-month implementation period.
